About the Self-administered Gambling Questionnaire

If you are already registered, you may log in when you are ready to proceed.

Gambling includes betting or wagering on any game of chance, including gambling at a casino, online gambling, betting on horse races, playing bingo, participating in lotteries, and other forms.

For various reasons, including unrealistic expectations about winning, early experiences of gambling wins, reliance on gambling for escape from reality, deflection of stressful life experiences, relief from anxiety or depression, or impulse control disorders, many people have difficulty controlling the amounts that they wager and the intensity with which they approach gambling.

The SGS philosophy is that gambling is a recreational activity and as such, everyone who chooses to gamble should take steps not to overextend their means, become desensitized to what is happening (by consuming excessive alcohol, etc.) or approach gambling with overzealous intensity.

Carrying gambling to an extreme has caused serious problems to a great number of people. "Problem Gambling" (a.k.a."disordered gambling") in its general sense, is gambling activity that causes emotional, social, or financial difficulty for the gambler and/or others that a gambler influences. This happens to a low percentage of those who choose to gamble, but people suffering with gambling problems numbers in the millions and those "at-risk" of developing serious problems includes millions more.

This self-administered gambling questionnaire has been scientifically validated and is based on the best scientific information and most recent research studies on gambling and problem gambling. Its components have been successfully employed for several years. Thousands of people have used the tools provided as a personal, preliminary guide to indicate the degree of current gambling problems and the risk of developing such problems. The SGS Self-administered Gambling Questionnaire is not intended to substitute for a clinical diagnosis of problem, compulsive or pathological gambling.
